Käthe is delighted to join her talented colleagues to perform for the first time on Spivey Hall’s Albert Schweitzer Memorial Organ, by Ruffatti of Padua, Italy. Spivey Hall’s resident organist Alan Morrison curates and hosts this event, bringing together some of the best organists in the region to explore the extraordinary capabilities of this magnificent instrument. Featuring Hugo Distler’s captivating variations on Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming, this program weaves these timeless themes with readings from the Christmas story, from prophetic visions to the reverence of the shepherds and wise ones, alongside choral responses by Howells, Rutter, Holst, Pärt, and others. Allow the exquisite voices of Kinnara to lead you through an evening filled with peace, wonder, and celebration. Käthe will accompany several selections of the evening on Glenn Memorial’s Casavant organ.

Emory's Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols

For many Atlantans, the start of the Yuletide season begins with Emory University's annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. Performed by the Emory University Concert Choir and University Chorus, this magical melding of scripture lessons read in conjunction with the performance of international carols has been an Atlanta tradition since 1935. Based on the traditional service at King’s College Chapel, Cambridge, this holiday program was drawn from sources ancient and modern by E. W. Benson, Bishop of Truro in 1880, and has been observed at Emory University since 1935. Käthe will be the organist for these services.

Käthe joins the DeKalb Symphony Orchestra on organ for another collaboration with Glenn Memorial UMC’s Chancel Choir in their performance of Mozart’s Solemn Vespers, led by conductor Michael Dauterman. The DSO will also perform Copland’s Appalachian Spring, Barber’s Canzonetta for Oboe and Strings featuring Emily Brebach, oboe, and Donizaetti’s English Horn Concertino featuring Emily Brebach, English Horn and led by Music Director Paul Bhasin. Käthe is thrilled to be featured as a recitalist at Atlanta’s Episcopal Cathedral, where she regularly sings for weekly Evensong with the Cathedral Schola, under the direction of Canon for Music, Dr. Dale Adelmann. Her program will feature the little-performed Prelude to Gerald Finzi’s Requiem da Camera (1924), in a transcription by the recently departed Francis Jackson, OBE. She will also play works by Brewer, Howells, contemporary British composer Ghislaine Reece-Trapp, and Percy Whitlock, all on the Cathedral’s glorious Aeolian-Skinner instrument.

Käthe joins the SSA and director Andrew Schmidt to accompany the final concert, featuring English choral masterworks: Benjamin Britten: Rejoice in the Lamb, Handel: Zadok the Priest, Ireland: Greater Love Hath No Man, Stanford: Magnificat & Nunc Dimittis in G Major, Elgar: Great is the Lord & Lux Aeterna

The Summer Singers of Atlanta was created in 1990 by founded William O. Baker as Atlanta’s “original summer chorus.” No audition is required for membership. Adult and mature youth are welcomed from all walks of life and from every level of music experience and interests in the chorus that averages between 100 and 150 members each year. Singers have traveled to Midtown Atlanta from as far as Savannah, Georgia, Chattanooga, Tennessee and Charlotte, North Carolina to be a part of weekly rehearsals in preparation of a grand choral masterwork performed with orchestra.

Weekly Monday night rehearsals begin June 6 and continue until the performance on August 6th  Novice singers are supported by the many music professionals and well-trained singers that are attracted to the opportunity to sing immortal works with professional soloists and top-notch orchestra musicians in an environment focused on learning.  Across the three decades of the Summer Singers of Atlanta, both critics and audiences have marveled at the artistic excellence achieved in a truly community setting.
